our first big project of the semester was the design and construction of a space modulator based on our building site and "forces" we defined through some initial site analysis. the idea comes from the light-space modulator mobile by laszlo moholy-nagy. while ours is not quite as cool as laszlo's, it did open to rave reviews at our first jury last week.
the photos don't really do the model justice, so i guess you all will just have to come visit me to get the full effect. we're submitting our final building design to a steel competition, hence the use of steel tubes. the wood grid is suspended from these tubes, as is a fancy-pants piece of wood and two lighter paper mache pieces. these three elements hang within the wooden grid and represent what will become the program of our final building, a homeless assistance center.
