mountain girl in the city

last night, susan and dave treated me to a night on the town. we had dinner at the historic chautauqua dining hall. i felt slightly underdressed in my hawkeye gear while little high schoolers pranced through in sparkly dresses and heels on their way to a dance but i wasn't done celebrating quite yet and felt compelled to represent.

then we went to a taping of the popular radio show, etown. we were lucky enough to get to see the legendary judy collins. she was mostly wonderful with a side of feisty.

then there was this guy bill mckibben who i had never heard of but who also might be the coolest guy ever. he is the founder of 350.org and talked about global warming and the international day of climate action which everyone should participate in.

also, shawn colvin was there. obviously she has quite the repertoire as well but i have to say that my favorite tune was one she sampled from her debut on the simpsons. i think we all have something to learn from this:
